Volunteer First Aid Station

Friends of Monhegan Volunteer Fire Department (FOMVFD) launched Monhegan First Aid (MFA) on June 27, 2021, and recruited licensed medical volunteers to staff a new first aid station located at the center of town across from the Monhegan Store on the lower level of the “Fish and Maine.”

Each week from approximately Memorial Day (May 30) to Indigenous People’s Day (October 10)* one of the medical volunteers (aka “Doc on the Rock”) maintains limited walk-in hours for basic first aid and ailments:

Monday – Friday 10 am – 12 pm*
(Visitation is free of charge and donations for care are welcome.)

In addition to walk-in services, the Doc on the Rock is on-call 24/7 for all 911 calls.

The MFA program was created to ensure that the Monhegan community and its visitors have access to a licensed medical provider during the height of the tourist season. The program recruits medical volunteers who can assist the small and often overworked group of dedicated Monhegan first responders who have basic and wilderness first aid training in attending to emergency injuries and illnesses before Life Flight or other mainland-based resources arrive.

*Dates and hours of operation may vary year to year and depend on volunteer availability. FOMVD will communicate and post dates and hours of operation on their website and the first aid station door as changes occur.
